Alabama MBB comes from behind to defeat No. 1 Houston

Alabama men’s basketball team defeated No.1-ranked Houston. It was the first time that a team has knocked off two No. 1 teams before the New Year since 1965 when Duke did it.

No. 8 Alabama was able to knock off No. 1 Houston on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 71-65. If fans recall, Alabama beat Houston a season ago after a controversial call gave the Tide the win.

The Tide overcame a 15-point deficit to pull off their second win against a top-ranked team this season. Previously, Alabama was able to beat No. 1 North Carolina in the Phil Knight Invitational.

Nate Oats’ squad was led offensively by the likes of freshmen Noah Clowney and Jaden Bradley. Clowney scored 16 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. As for Bradley, he was able to score 12 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

Houston was energetic and physical on both ends of the floor for the majority of the game. It was evident that Kelvin Sampson had his squad ready to go in their first-ever meeting ranked as No. 1 in their home arena. The Cougars forced a lot of Tide turnovers in the first half.

However, the Tide were able to limit the number of turnovers and make some clutch free throws en route to victory. This was a much-needed win for Alabama’s resume as well as their confidence heading into a tough two-game stretch against Memphis and Gonzaga.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama men’s basketball program as the season progresses.
