Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide received massive news Saturday night as linebacker Deontae Lawson announced his decision to return to Tuscaloosa for his redshirt senior season. Earlier this week, LB Justin Jefferson announced he’d be returning to Alabama, so with Lawson officially returning, Kane Wommack should be thrilled about the LB room.
Lawson was a semi-finalist for the Butkus Award, earned third-team All-SEC recognition and was one of the Crimson Tide’s permanent captains this past year. Unfortunately, Lawson’s season was cut short after suffering a knee injury in the Tide’s loss against Oklahoma. However, he still finished the year with 76 total tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.
In all three years of his college career, Lawson has recorded at least 50 tackles a season. The Mobile, AL native broke the news on his X account saying,
“This program and the staff have been like a second family to me. The opportunity I have been given to play for Coach Saban and Coach DeBoer is a blessing. I want to finish what I started from the day I stepped on campus, and that includes winning a national championship.”
