Alabama may not have ended the season on a positive note following three straight losses, including the loss to Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, but things can take a dramatic turn for the best in March as the Crimson Tide has officially been selected to take part in the NCAA Tournament.
This is the second consecutive season that Alabama has been invited to participate in the tournament, a feat that the program hasn’t accomplished since the early 2000s under former head coach Mark Gottfried.
Alabama completed the season with a 19-13 overall record, managing to go a paltry 9-9 in SEC play. The season ended with consecutive losses to Texas A&M, the LSU Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores, respectively. All but the loss to the Aggies ended up being highly-competitive matchups.
Nate Oats’ squad will hope to shift momentum, and perhaps find a definite playmaker to grip the reigns of this program and lead it deep into the tournament.
It was announced at around 5:00 p.m. CDT that the Alabama Crimson Tide would take part in the tourney as the sixth seed in the West region.
Their opponent will need to be settled in the West region’s First Four between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Rutgers Scarlett Knights.
Alabama will play on Friday, with the game time yet to be announced.
The Crimson Tide shares a region with the No. 1-overall seed, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, against whom they have already defeated back in December.
