Alabama fifth-year guard Jahvon Quinerly will declare for the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein was the first to report the news on Friday afternoon.
Quinerly has the option to return for a sixth season if he elects to forgo the draft and return to school.
Quinerly began his college career at Villanova in 2018. After spending one season with the Wildcats, he elected to enter the transfer portal. At that time, transfers were required to sit out a year. That is what Quinerly did during the 2019-2020 season.
During his first season of play in Tuscaloosa, Quinerly came off of the bench. He was the Tide’s sixth man and had a huge role in helping the Tide reach the Sweet Sixteen.
In the past two seasons, he has served as the team’s captain despite suffering a season-ending injury during his junior season.
As a senior, he was an instrumental player off of the bench for the majority of the season before being named a starter from the SEC Tournament onwards. His play in March has stood out in each of his three seasons in Tuscaloosa.
The opportunity for Quinerly to return will be there if he chooses to take advantage of his final year of college eligibility. If not, he will be heading off to the NBA.
