Alabama was a force, opening the season with nine straight victories. Then, the Tide ran into Texas A&M and a quarterback named Johnny Manziel. The Aggies surged to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Alabama rallied but came up short, falling, 29-24. The bounce back was swift as Alabama outscored its next two opponents, 98-0, outlasted Georgia, 32-28, in the SEC Championship before crushing Notre Dame, 42-14, to give Nick Saban another national title. This game also famously brought AJ McCarron’s then girlfriend, Katherine Webb, to national prominence. Brett Musburger was fascinated by her and kept referencing Webb during the contest.
