On Friday, the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team opened up the 2020 season with a big 10-0 win over Northeastern in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Although Alabama is very young team led by many freshman, that didn’t stop the team from showing off their talent and determination.

Alabama’s offense rallied for 10 runs on 12 hits and nine walks. Freshman Owen Diodate started his career off with an impressive showing with two home runs to go with a team-high three RBI and four runs scored.

Freshman pitcher Connor Priellip got the win while pitching 4 innings and only allowing 1 hit while striking out 7. He is also the first freshman to win a season-opener in Crimson Tide history.

Alabama head baseball coach Brad Bohannon had this to say after the game:

“”The first thing that I would like to say is what an awesome crowd, especially out in right field. I thought the student turnout was outstanding. It was awesome for (Owen) Diodati hitting a couple of souvenirs out there. This was a really good first day for us. We certainly weren’t perfect, but a lot of guys contributed. Connor (Prielipp) did a great job with getting us a start on the mound, and we had a lot of hard contact throughout the lineup. I’m just really pleased to get off to the good start.”

On Saturday, Alabama will face Northeastern for game two of the series which starts at 12 PM CT.
