The Alabama baseball program received some good news on Tuesday. Texas transfer pitcher Pierce George announced that he was transferring to Alabama on X, formerly known as Twitter.
George was ranked as the No. 170 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class by Perfect Game. At Lake Travis High School, George played both shortstop and pitcher. Therefore, he was recruited as a two-way player by the Longhorns coaching staff.
Upon arriving in Austin, George was strictly listed as a pitcher. During his freshman season, he made three appearances. George pitched two innings while allowing two hits and three earned runs.
During the offseason, several of Alabama’s pitchers were drafted different MLB organizations. With that said, George could find himself on the mound sooner rather than later.
FSS Plus senior analyst Joe Doyle reported that George had a mid-80 slider with a 99 mile per hour fastball. At 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, that is extremely rare. It will be interesting to see if George can develop into becoming a dependable arm on the mound for the Crimson Tide in 2023.
