Al Horford reflects on chase-down block against Golden State’s Jordan Poole: ‘I was just out there competing’

Al Horford downplayed his otherwise epic block over Jordan Poole following Boston’s overtime victory against the Golden State Warriors.

Al Horford had one of his finest performances in a Boston Celtics uniform Thursday night as the home team grabbed a big win over the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Horford ended the night with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Horford was instrumental in helping the Celtics get a strong start. More importantly, he was the bedrock for Boston’s gutsy comeback in the fourth quarter and overtime.

“It was important from the beginning that I came out and set the tone for our group,” Horford said. “We really did a good job of staying the course and feeding off of the energy from the crowd.”

A first-quarter block against Jordan Poole may have been the highlight of the game, but it was only one of several impressive plays from Horford.

“I was just out there competing,” Horford said of the play. “This type of game, at least to me, felt like it had playoff-type intensity. Those types of plays are important.”
