Former Michigan football star and current Detroit Lions rookie Aidan Hutchinson was a finalist for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Year award.
And on Thursday the NFL announced Hutchinson was the winner of the award.
This award was voted on by fans, and Hutchinson beat Sauce Gardner, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Kenneth Walker. Hutchinson was the fan favorite.
In a press release, Hutchinson said he was extremely honored, and he hopes to have an even better year next season. That is quite the statement after having an incredible rookie NFL season.
“There were so many talented players in this rookie class, so it’s quite an honor for me to be named the 2022 Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Year,” Hutchinson said via press release. “Considering some of the past Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Year winners, taking home this award feels surreal, and I want to thank all the fans who believed in me and voted for me. It is amazing to see the support from fans week after week, and I am ready to start the offseason and get out there for an even better season next year.”
Hutchinson finished the season with 52 tackles, a rookie-leading 9.5 sacks, and three interceptions.
