Head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies are off to a well-deserved 1-0 start on the 2022 college football season, defeating the Sam Houston State Bearkats last Saturday 31-0, despite an elongated weather delay that lasted nearly three hours during the halftime break.
On Wednesday evening, Fisher joined lead broadcaster and voice of the Aggies Andrew Monaco in their second show this season in front of a packed Rudy’s Bar-B-Q, as the head coach was asked a plethora of questions regarding the season opener, the weather delay during the game, and looking towards face a talented Appalcain State team for the first time in program history.
In reflecting on the amount of freshmen players from the 2022 class who received playing time, Fisher acknowledged,
“We played 19 true freshmen, nine redshirt freshmen, and that was in the rotation of the game…We’re a talented team, but we’re a young football team. We got to learn, and we got to learn quick.”
Describing the chaos presented during the weather delay after entering halftime with a 17-0 lead, Fisher explained his personal experience during the ordeal:
“We met with the team, had meetings and thought we were going back out about six different times…it was driving me crazy.”
Asked about the Appalachian State matchup this Saturday, Fisher briefly described the challenge the Mountaineers present in any given year:
“They’re goliath killers, they’re a team that doesn’t back down…those guys are mature, and they know how to play.”
