Aggies Center Bryce Foster is out with illness against Sam Houston State; Matthew Wykoff will start

According to The Eagle, Travis L. Brown has reported that starting center and 2021 SEC All-Freshman Team member Bryce Foster will miss the season opener this Saturday due to an unspecified illness, as the news came directly from his mother, Heidi Foster. Backup Matthew Wykoff is slated to make his first career start at the spot as an Aggie. Want a little more insurance? Jimbo Fisher stated last month that he feels comfortable with either Bryce Foster or Matthew Wykoff at the center and adds that both have had good fall camps.

Now, before some sort of pregame fear washes over you after reading too much into this news, I’m here to tell you that it’s going to be alright, because redshirt freshman Matthew Wykoff is coming off of a strong fall camp performance, taking first-team reps at the center postion during multiple practices. The fact that head coach Jimbo Fisher has this much depth at one of the most critical positions on the line is great news for quarterback Haynes King, knowing that no matter who is communicating line calls or adjustments pre-snap, the trust is intact.
