Aggie Baseball needs a flawless ending to secure tournament bid

The Aggies have little room for error as the final seeding for the NCAA tournament is right around the corner.

The past month has been a roller coaster ride for the Aggies baseball team, experiencing very highs and lows. Texas A&M put on an impressive showing taking the series from the No. 4 Florida Gators and was riding a three-game winning streak into the Alabama series.

Game one gave the impression that A&M would light up the scoreboard over the weekend after they hit six home runs, winning 11-5. Another SEC series win was in viewing distance and would go a long way in seeding for the upcoming postseason tournaments. Instead, we witnessed an embarrassing Senior Day loss getting run-ruled 1-12, then followed that performance with a 0-11 loss in game three.

If the Aggies want to end the season at .500 in league play, then the only option is to sweep Mississippi State on the road. That will put them at 33 wins and even in SEC play going into the SEC Tournament. Both teams have high stakes, but a few bad games could produce a scenario where Texas A&M is sitting at the house with the rest of us watching the NCAA Tournament.

The updated field of 64 projections shows the Aggies as the three-seed facing two-seed Dallas Baptist in Stillwater. As long as the Aggies win this series again in Mississippi State, they should still be safe to make the NCAA tournament; however, if they drop this series and have a bad showing in Hoover there is no telling how things will shake out.
