There is a new head coach in the AFC East that the Buffalo Bills will now face for the foreseeable future.

The Miami Dolphins filled their vacant head coaching spot over the weekend. The job went to San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, the team announced.

McDaniel replaces Brian Flores who was fired after two-straight winningseasons in Miami.

The former coach went on to file a lawsuit against the NFL and Dolphins relating to alleged racist hiring tendencies in the league and regarding Miami ownership offering Flores money to lose games.

Below the surface, McDaniel being hired means one additional thing beside the obvious: Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier had reportedly been connected to the Dolphins gig. It appears Buffalo will not be losing their defensive coordinator this offseason.

McDaniel, 38, only spent one season as the 49ers’ offensive coordinator before becoming Miami’s head coach. From 2017 to 2020, McDaniel was San Francisco’s run game coordinator.

In that lone year leading the entire offense, McDaniel’s team ranked seventh in yards per game (375.7).

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McDaniel has signed a four-year deal.
