As the 2021 regular season concluded in the NFL, any smart bet would have been that the most talked about AFC East thing being the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots facing off in the wild-card round.
Turns out that’s wrong.
Instead, the Miami Dolphins took headlines and they made a surprise move.
Many expected the usual slew of head coach firings around the league on what is known as “Black Monday.” No one saw Miami head coach Brian Flores being axed and that’s exactly what happened.
The Dolphins announced that Flores has been fired.
The news comes as a bit of a shock considering the turnaround that Miami had in the second half of the season, winning eight of its last nine contests.
Flores finishes his Dolphins tenure with a 24-25 record, but they failed to make the playoffs in any of his three seasons.
In Buffalo, fans might be surprised and a bit sad to see Flores go.
Around the NFL, he was a touted coach. Even some of his former players have already voiced support for him.
However, in his three years at the helm, Miami lost all six meetings against the Bills.
The last time the Bills lost to the Dolphins came in 2018 when Adam Gase was still their head coach.
While Flores was let go, according to Dolphins Wire, Miami will not make a front office change.
General manager Chris Grier remains in his post and will lead the search for the Dolphins’ next coach this offseason.
