With the way things have gone in the AFC East recently, especially during the 2020 season, the Buffalo Bills are the only team with a settled situation at the quarterback position.
Buffalo’s 2018 first-round pick, Josh Allen, has panned out. The New York Jets’ No. 3 overall pick from that same draft, quarterback Sam Darnold, has since gone the opposite direction.
Recent headline even suggest that Darnold, who was selected four picks before Allen at that year’s draft, could be on the move soon. According to Jets Wire, ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that “multiple teams” are interested in trading for Darnold.
Schefter added that the Jets have not come to a decision on their plans at quarterback yet. ESPN reached out to the Jets looking for comment, but they did not confirm nor deny that they have received calls on Darnold.
The Jets recently hired Robert Saleh, formerly the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator, as their next head coach. It remains to be seen if Saleh wants to give Darnold another shot in 2021 or if he wants to find his own QB.
Adding flames to that fire is that the Jets hold the No. 2 overall pick at the upcoming draft. That’s certainly a selection Gang Green could use to find a new QB to do battle against the Bills and Allen… and rest of the AFC East.
Darnold’s third season with the Jets was a rollercoaster. He missed four games in 2020 due to a right shoulder injury. It was the third consecutive year that Darnold missed at least three games because of an injury.
In 2020, Darnold had 2,208 passing yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Since he has entered the NFL, Darnold has struggled, but so have the Jets in terms of getting him help around him.
