AEW was concerned enough about MJF in Las Vegas to consider breaking into his hotel room to check on him

A new report suggests some AEW staff were concerned enough about MJF to consider breaking into his Las Vegas hotel room to check on him ahead of Double or Nothing.

Even though the debate over whether the MJF situation in AEW was a work from the start is essentially moot at this point following his much-discussed Dynamite promo last week, new tidbits about his actions and status during Double or Nothing weekend in Las Vegas continue to come to light.

The latest report that reinforces the idea that people within AEW were legitimately concerned about MJF comes from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select. In his latest Backstage Report, Sapp discussed new information from his sources about the day before the pay-per-view, when MJF no-showed a scheduled meet and greet session with fans.

Sapp said there were people involved “that you absolutely do not work” who had “genuine concern for MJF’s safety.”

“We’re told that at one point, there was discussion of having his hotel room kind of busted into to make sure that he was safe and all that.”

Sapp’s stance all along has been that the MJF saga started out as a real world grievance over his position and pay with AEW that has turned into an on-screen drama. It doesn’t matter that much now, with the wrestler delivering a scathing personal attack on Tony Khan last Wednesday that AEW’s chief executive clearly approved. It’s dissatisfaction turned into entertainment, which is a concept that isn’t new to pro wrestling.

But the question of who knew what and when is still relevant, because it speaks to the possibility of MJF’s co-workers and other members of AEW management being left in the dark and potentially being angry about being worked. Reports like Sapp’s, if they’re on the money, lessen that somewhat, as they point at the situation only becoming a storyline after Double or Nothing.

It’s likely that a full accounting of how everything went down won’t come out until MJF is later in his career or retired, and considering he’s only 26, that could be decades from now. For the time being, it’s going to continue to fascinate the wrestling world and spark debate with every new piece of information that surfaces.
