Adam Walton advances to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.

Adam Walton advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA men’s singles tennis tournament Wednesday.

Walton, a native of Australia and No. 3 player in the nation, defeated No. 38 Henry von der Schulenburg of Harvard, 7-6 (1), 6-3, at Kahn Outdoor Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.

Walton, an all-America standout for the second consecutive season, has not lost a set in singles competition in the tournament. Walton advances to the round of 8 for the first time in his career.

He will play Kentucky’s Gabriel Diallo in the quarterfinals Thursday. Diallo defeated Ohio State’s Matej Vocel, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

In doubles competition, Walton and doubles partner Pat Harper were eliminated.

Tennessee’s duo lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to Ohio State’s Matej and Robert Cash.
