Adam Gase dismisses ‘false’ Quinnen Williams trade speculation: ‘He’s going to be here’

The Jets are not trading Quinnen Williams.

The Jets are not trading Quinnen Williams.

That’s straight from Adam Gase, who dismissed the possibility on Wednesday.

“He’s going to be here. Those [stories] are false,” the head coach said, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I talked to Quinnen. I have not heard one thing from anybody in the front office about him being traded… There’s nothing to that. It’s false.”

Rumors have been swirling around the 2019 third overall pick in recent days. On Tuesday, the Daily News’ Manish Mehta reported that the Jets were trying to trade Williams. However, that report was disputed by a number of other Jets beat writers, who all said the Jets were not shopping the 22-year-old Williams.

While teams have shown interest in Williams ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline, Joe Douglas spoke with the defensive lineman and his agent and put the rumors to rest. Williams, for his part, said he’s been ignoring the speculation — which now appears to be nothing more.

“Honestly I just don’t read it, man,” Williams told SiriusXM Radio. “Just don’t look at it, just don’t read it. You just don’t really listen to it, just don’t really pay it any attention, man.”

Williams has played in all seven of the Jets’ games this season. He has already matched his total number of tackles (28) from an inconsistent, injury-plagued rookie year and surpassed his sack total with three. He has five QB hits on the season, in addition to one forced fumble.

While the 0-7 Jets have already dealt a pair of defensive lineman, it sounds like Williams is staying put.
