After significant pushback from fans, Troy Baker is no longer going forward with his NFT plans.
Baker, best known for playing Joel in The Last of Us, announced the cancelation of his partnership with VoiceVerseNFT.
“Thank you all for your feedback and patience. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to not continue the partnership with VoiceVerseNFT,” Baker said on Twitter. “Intentions aside, I’ve heard you and apologize for accusing anyone of ‘hating’ just by simply disagreeing with me.”
The ‘hating’ comment refers to Baker’s initial announcement regarding the partnership, where he pre-emptively postured against NFT critics. As you might expect, it did not go over well with fans.

Cryptocurrency implementation into video games continues to be the industry’s big hot button issue. While many developers are staunchly opposed to NFTs, larger publishers are still interested in the technology. Companies like Square Enix and Ubisoft are pretty keen on NFTs, for now, anyway. The blowback can be pretty severe, though, as was the case with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl removing all blockchain tech due to how upset fans were over the inclusion of NFTs.
Baker might be the most recent case, but he certainly won’t be the last to try and take a stab at NFTs. Kind of an exasperating thought for those of us who just want to play video games.
