Suppose any 2024 prospect deserves a bump in their rating. In that case, it’s Mississippi quarterback and Texas A&M commit Anthony Maddox, who this week significantly increased his recruiting status by receiving a four-star designation by Rivals.
Maddox, who is currently positioned as the 17th-ranked player in Mississippi, and the 6th-ranked quarterback in the 2024 cycle, is one of the most intriguing offensive prospects in the class due to his true duel threat ability in the open field, while the hiring of new Texas A&M offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s development of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson during his time as the head coach at Louisville was undoubtedly an intriguing recruiting pitch.
Committing to the program back in February, Maddox’s football roots run deep, starting with his Father, Anthony Maddox, time as a defensive lineman at Delta State, resulting in his 4th-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Maddox’s brother, Andrew Maddox, is currently a four-star defensive line prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Maddox’s 2022 junior season at Oak Grove is one to remember, throwing for 2,198 yards and 20 touchdowns while accounting for 347 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. Sporting his new four-star designation ahead of the all-important 2023 senior campaign, Jimbo Fisher and his staff know that when it’s all said and done, landing a player of Maddox’s potential provides a small glimpse into the Aggies’ bright future at the quarterback position.
