The quarterback situation is getting super messy in New England.

Tom Brady leaving the Patriots turned out to be as detrimental as many anticipated. There was the optimism that Bill Belichick could quickly move forward with any quarterback and put together a formidable season. With the league-high opt-outs and many other circumstances, that didn’t happen.

Cam Newton’s losing faith from Patriots fans and Jarrett Stidham isn’t getting the opportunity many people believe he should have. But, Belichick likes the 31-year-old and continues to stick by his side. After throwing 5-of-10 for 34 yards in an ugly 38-9 loss to the Buffalo Bills — Belichick remained strong in his belief.

He didn’t make the decision for the team’s Week 17 starter and said that Cam wasn’t the problem.

Newton was pulled late in the third quarter and he tacked on four rushes for 24 yards and a touchdown in the game as well. He appeared to be in control early in the game, but Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs put the contest far out of range.

Newton’s on a one-year deal and Stidham is the only quarterback on the team signed through next season. The Patriots have a ton of enormous decisions to make, but the most important will be at quarterback.

Through 16 weeks, Belichick sticking with his belief in Cam.
