ACC to have discussions about adding two Pac-12 teams per report

A new report from Pete Thamel suggests that the ACC is looking to add two teams from the Pac-12 and will hold calls on that.

After a busy week with realignment in college athletics, the Pac-12 is all but gone with just four programs left standing. And two of those programs could be on their way out as well.

On Monday, ESPN college football senior writer Pete Thamel reported that the Atlantic Coast Conference will have discussions in the next 24 hours about potentially adding both Cal and Stanford. Thammel reported that there would be two calls in the period of 24 hours for then exploratory discussions.

This is significant news for the conference as they have watched both the SEC and Big Ten add teams in back-to-back summers.

ACC commissioner Jim Phillips did say at the league’s annual kickoff event that they were looking to bridge the revenue gap and had plans to stay together. However, with Florida State making it known they want to leave, and others likely following, the conference is looking to add now.

Stanford and Cal don’t make sense geographically how things are going right now, that is no longer a priority.

It will certainly be interesting to see how things progress in the coming days with these calls.
