Aaron Rodgers on Davante Adams: ‘He’s a dream to play with’

Davante Adams is all the talent and no diva, making him the perfect wide receiver to play with, says Aaron Rodgers.

Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams has all the talent of a premier receiver with none of the diva.

He is undeniably talented. Adams proved it once again Thursday night, catching 10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown during the Green Bay Packers’ win over the San Francisco 49ers. Now operating at the height of his powers, Adams is growing his case as the NFL’s best receiver.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sees a great player and an even better person, or the “dream” receiver to play with as a quarterback.

“The beauty in a player like that is he’s a better person than a player, and that’s saying a lot. Never been an issue,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday. “And you’re talking about a highly competitive, highly talented guy, with a strong ego and a desire to be great, who has never been an issue in the locker room, bitching about balls, targets, never. He’s a dream to play with. You’re talking about an elite talent who can also be a leader and one of your best guys on the team as far as people. That’s kind of unheard of in this league. I’m just thankful to have him.”

Rodgers and Adams have connected 53 times for 675 yards and eight touchdowns, the most scores between a quarterback and receiver combination this season.

For the third time in his first six games of 2020, Adams caught at least 10 passes and gained at least 150 receiving yards in a game. Over the last three games, Adams has 30 catches and six scores.

He can do it all within the Packers offense.

“His skill set is so unique. He has the talent to get on top on the outside, you saw it last night. He’s an incredible route runner. He’s good at in-breakers and out-breakers. He’s good after the catch. You just don’t have that combination (in the NFL),” Rodgers said.

Adams hauled in three passes over 30 yards against the 49ers, including a spinning 36-yard touchdown on the opening drive. He also won down the field for gains of 49 yards and 34 yards.

Rodgers was just as impressed with his shortest gain of the night, an incredible catch on 4th-and-short in the first half.

“I couldn’t believe he caught it. It was an amazing catch. As his glove is getting dropped off. He’s just such a talented guy, and he has such a great confidence,” Rodgers said.

Adams won the route despite the cornerback playing with outside leverage, and then made a contested catch with the defender draped all over him to extend the drive, which eventually ended in a touchdown.

At his current per-game averages, Adams would finish the 2020 season with 123 catches, almost 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns, despite missing 2.5 games with an injury.
