Aaron Rodgers inching closer to his own single-season passer rating record

Rodgers had an NFL record 122.5 passer rating in 2011, his first MVP season. He’s inching closer to the mark in 2020.

The numbers for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers through 14 weeks are starting to a lot like 2011, his first MVP season.

In terms of passer rating, Rodgers is inching closer and closer to the NFL single-season record he set nine years ago.

After posting a 133.6 passer rating during Sunday’s 31-24 win over the Detroit Lions, Rodgers’ season passer rating is now up to 119.7, just a few points below the 122.5 mark he posted in 2011.

Rodgers has a passer rating of 133.9 over his last three games, including Sunday’s win over the Lions. He’s thrown 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions over that three-game span.

Once again, consistent greatness has powered his incredible season.

In 2011, Rodgers had multiple touchdown passes and a passer rating over 100.0 in 13 of his 15 starts. This season, Rodgers has hit both benchmarks in 12 of 13 games.

Overall, Rodgers has a passer rating of at least 120.0 in eight games. In 2011, he had six, but two other games finished just below 120.0.

Rodgers has three games left in 2020, and given the current playoff field, will likely play in all three games as the Packers attempt to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC. In 2011, he sat out Week 17 but still finished with 45 touchdown passes, 4,643 passing yards and 48 total touchdowns. This season, he’s on pace for 48 touchdown passes, 4,535 passing yards and 50 total touchdowns.

Rodgers’ current passer rating of 119.7 would rank third in NFL history. Peyton Manning, who held the record from 2004 to 2011, is second at 121.1.
