New York Giants linebacker Markus Golden entered Sunday’s game against the Redskins needing one sack to trigger a $1 million bonus for reaching double-digit sacks on the season, but despite taking down Washington’s Dwayne Haskins in the third quarter, Golden was only credited for a half-sack by scorers.
Fortunately for the former Missouri star, Golden was credited for a full sack on the play following a review, which gave him a hefty holiday bonus, as well as a place in the Giants’ record books. With 10 sacks on the season, Golden reached a mark that no Giants linebacker had matched since the legendary Lawrence Taylor.
Via the Giants:
“He is the first Giants player with double-digit sacks since Jason Pierre-Paul had 12.5 in 2014 and the first Giants linebacker to accomplish the feat since Lawrence Taylor had 10.5 in 1990.”
Golden signed a 1-year deal worth $3.75 million before the season, so his bonus adds a significant chunk to his earnings for the year.

“It’s always a goal to get double-digit sacks. If you’re rushing the passer, you want to get there. It’s a status thing — 9.5 is a big difference than 10. It feels good to get it down, get it over with and, like I said, be able to put it out for my kids to be able to keep playing, keep fighting.”
