A reminder why the Bucs don’t have a fourth-round pick

The Buccaneers will have to wait until round five of the 2020 NFL draft before they select again. Find out why they don’t have a fourth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to a hot start in this year’s NFL draft, snagging prized tackle Tristan Wirfs in round one, safety Antoine Winfield Jr. in round two, and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn in round three.

It’s been a balanced attack so far for the Bucs this draft, but if Jason Licht and co. were hoping to keep the momentum going into today’s action, they’ll have to wait another full round before they’re back on the clock. That’s because the Bucs don’t have a fourth-round pick today, which you might find odd since they started the week with two:

4th Round, 117th overall

4th Round, 139th overall (compensatory)

Tampa Bay used both those picks to make separate trades, first with the New England Patriots as part of the Rob Gronkowski deal. New England received Tampa Bay’s compensatory pick.

Then, in Thursday night’s round one, the Bucs traded their other fourth-rounder (No. 117) to the Niners to move up to 13 to take Wirfs.

I’d say the price of those two fourth-round picks was definitely worth it, considering what the Bucs got in return — a Hall of Fame tight end and potential franchise tackle.
