This season, each week, Vols Wire will look back at one of Tennessee’s memorable games against its upcoming opponent.
The Volunteers (2-2, 0-1 SEC) will travel to take on Missouri (2-2, 0-1 SEC) at Memorial Stadium.
Kickoff is slated for noon EDT and the game will be televised by SEC Network.
Saturday’s contest will mark the tenth meeting between the Volunteers and Tigers. Missouri holds a 5-4 advantage in the series between the two SEC East division foes, but UT has won the last two meetings.
This installment will revisit the Vols’, 19-8, road victory in 2015.
As the final score would indicate, the contest was a defensive struggle.
Vols’ kicker Aaron Medley converted four field goals and scored the game’s first nine points.
Medley gave Tennessee a 3-0 lead with a 34-yard field goal with 8 minutes, 19 seconds remaining in the first quarter. He would add a 22-yarder late in the opening frame, making it 6-0.
Medley extended UT’s advantage to 9-0 with a 44-yard field goal early in the second stanza before quarterback Joshua Dobbs scored the Vols’ lone touchdown on a 4-yard run before halftime.
The Vols’ advantage was extended to 16-0.
Medley’s 30-yard field goal in the third quarter made it 19-0.
Missouri scored when quarterback Drew Lock recorded a 1-yard run with 9:49 remaining in the game. He made the two-point conversion on a completion to Jason Reese.
The game was Gary Pinkel’s last home game as the Tigers’ head coach.
Defensively, Cameron Sutton and Preston Williams had interceptions for Tennessee.
Dobbs was 16-of-24 for 89 yards. He also rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown.
Jalen Hurd recorded 34 carries for 151 yards and was the Vols’ leading rusher.
