This season, each week, Vols Wire will look back at one of Tennessee’s memorable games against its upcoming opponent.
The Volunteers (5-4, 3-3 SEC) will host No. 1 Georgia (9-0, 7-0) at Neyland Stadium Saturday.
Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EST and the game will be televised by CBS.
Saturday’s game will mark 51st meeting between the Vols and Bulldogs in a series that dates back to 1899. Georgia holds a 25-23-2 advantage in the all-time series.
This installment will revisit Tennessee’s 35-14 victory over Georgia on Oct. 6, 2007 in Knoxville.
Tennessee darted out to a fast start, opening a 28-0 lead by halftime.
Running back Arian Foster, who rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns, would get the Vols on the scoreboard with a 9-yard touchdown run with 8 minutes, 44 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Daniel Lincoln added an extra point to give the Vols a 7-0 advantage.
Tennessee would score three more touchdowns in the second stanza as Lucas Taylor threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Lemarcus Coker on a trick play early in the frame. Montario Hardesty scored on a 10-yard run and Foster’s second touchdown gave the Vols a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Foster scored Tennessee’s last touchdown on a 4-yard run with 2:29 left in the third quarter.
Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, now one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks with the Los Angeles Rams, had two touchdown passes in the contest.
