A look at the 5 most important dates on the Steelers offseason calendar

Mark your calendar for these important offseason dates.

The Pittsburgh Steelers put out a full list of all the key dates for the team in the upcoming offseason. This offseason will be significant for Pittsburgh as the team prepares for the return of Ben Roethlisberger from injury.

Instead of going item by item through such an extensive list, we decided to offer up the five most important dates as it pertains to the Steelers.

February 23: This is the first date the Steelers can designate a player with the franchise or transition tag. This will be significant for Pittsburgh should they want to franchise outside linebacker Bud Dupree so he cannot leave via free agency.

March 16: This is the first date teams may enter into negotiations with players who will become free agents on March 18. Pittsburgh has multiple free agents who they should want to get locked in under new contracts before they hit the market.

March 18: This is the official start of the new league year. This is when the Steelers will make tender offers to their restricted free agents and must have their Top 51 contracts sorted out so they can be under the salary cap.

April 20: Offseason workouts begin. This might be our first chance to see Ben Roethlisberger back with the team and get a solid assessment of his health.

April 24: Day Two of the 2020 NFL draft. Without a first-round pick, this will be the day the Steelers begin their draft process if we assume the Steelers make no blockbuster trades to get back into the first round.
