Former Panthers LB reportedly signing with Buccaneers

LB Deion Jones, who played in 13 games for the Panthers last season, is set to join the Buccaneers’ practice squad.

A former Carolina Panthers defender may be trying to complete the full circuit through the NFC South.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to sign linebacker Deion Jones to their practice squad. Jones, who started his pro career with the Atlanta Falcons, spent the 2023 campaign as a member of the Panthers.

Jones was selected by the Falcons in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. The LSU product went on to earn a third-place finish in the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2016 and made his first Pro Bowl the following season in 2017.

Over six seasons in Atlanta, Jones recorded 652 tackles, 11.0 sacks and 11 interceptions.

He’d then be traded to the Cleveland Browns for a 2024 sixth-round pick in October of 2022. In his 11 games for Cleveland—Jones totaled 44 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Panthers signed Jones in July of 2023. He’d go on to play in 13 games for Carolina.

Jones was most recently a member of the Buffalo Bills, who released him back on Aug. 25.
