Texas lands 4-star KJ Lacey out of Alabama as only QB in 2025 class

Four-star quarterback KJ Lacey joins the Texas Longhorns as only QB in this recruiting cycle.

The Texas Longhorns secured a key piece of their future Wednesday with the signing of four-star quarterback KJ Lacey during Early Signing Day. Lacey, a standout from Saraland High School in Alabama, is the lone quarterback in Steve Sarkisian’s 2025 recruiting class.

Lacey, who was the first commit of the class, stayed loyal to his early pledge and officially joined the Longhorns with his signing. Known for his leadership, winning mentality, and elite passing skills, Lacey arrives on the Forty Acres with an impressive high school résumé.

During his time at Saraland, Lacey led the Spartans to unprecedented success, including their first-ever state championship in his sophomore year. That season, Lacey completed 200 of 314 passes (63.7%) for 3,177 yards, throwing 40 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He also showcased his versatility with four rushing touchdowns.

Standing at 6-foot and 175 pounds, Lacey might lack prototypical size, but his arm strength and accuracy more than compensate. He is known for threading passes into tight windows and delivering deep throws with precision.

With Lacey’s commitment, Texas has taken a significant step in building its 2025 class. The Longhorns are optimistic that his winning pedigree and skill set will translate to success at the collegiate level. He is slated to be QB3 behind the likes of Arch Manning at the QB1 spot and Trey Owens at the QB2 spot. Sarkisian likes to shift around his players in the depth chart especially during early season non-conference games. It is likely that Lacey could see a snap in games against San Jose State, University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), and, Sam Houston State.
