Following its demolition of Wisconsin, the Iowa Hawkeyes are back receiving votes in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.
Iowa (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) rolled to a 42-10 victory over Wisconsin. It’s the Hawkeyes’ largest margin of victory over the Badgers dating back to 1968. Iowa’s 42 points represent just the fourth time in the series’ history that the Hawkeyes have eclipsed the 40-point plateau against Wisconsin.
Junior running back Kaleb Johnson had another big game, rushing for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson now has 20 touchdowns on the season, which ties 2008 Doak Walker Award winner Shonn Greene’s Iowa single-season record with three regular season games left to play.
Iowa also found a win in Brendan Sullivan’s first career start as the junior completed 7-of-10 passes for 93 yards and a 7-yard touchdown strike to junior receiver Jacob Gill. Sullivan also ran for 58 yards and plunged in for a 1-yard touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
The new top five in the US LBM Coaches Poll features No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Miami and No. 5 Texas.
Penn State slid down four spots after its home loss without an offensive touchdown against the Buckeyes. Indiana is the only other Big Ten in the rankings. The undefeated Hooisers are No. 10.
Joining Iowa in the receiving votes category are fellow Big Ten squads Minnesota and Illinois. Iowa earned 13 points in the Coaches Poll.
