The Dallas Stars (6-3-0) meet the Florida Panthers (8-3-1) again at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland, in an NHL Global Series game Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for noon ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Stars vs. Panthers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Panthers lead 1-0

The defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers have won a season-high 4 games in a row, all away from home, while outscoring the opposition 20-10. That includes a 6-4 victory in Friday’s NHL Global Series battle in Tampere.

In Friday’s win, Florida got off to a quick start with goals from C Evan Rodrigues, C Aleksander Barkov and C Anton Lundell, taking a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes. Barkov ended up with a goal and 4 points in his first NHL game in his hometown.

It was 4-2 after 2 periods as C Sam Reinhart notched a shorthanded goal. The teams managed 2 goals apiece in the third period, giving us one of the highest-scoring international NHL games in recent memory. In fact, Florida’s 6 goals tied an NHL record for a non-North American regular season game. The Colorado Avalanche hung 6 goals on the Columbus Blue Jackets Nov. 4, 2022.

The Stars have scored 4 or more goals in 3 straight games, while hitting the mark in 4 of the past 5 outings. The Over is 2-0-2 in the past 4 contests after a 5-0 Under run Oct. 12-19.

Stars vs. Panthers projected goalies

Casey DeSmith (2-1-0, 1.69 GAA, .936 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Spencer Knight (2-1-0, 3.03 GAA, .898 SV%)

DeSmith has done a great job when called upon, posting a 25-save shutout in his first appearance against the Seattle Kraken Oct. 13, while conceding just 5 goals on 53 shots in his past 2 starts.

Knight was dinged for 4 goals on 26 shots in his initial appearance in Buffalo Oct. 12. He has since settled down, allowing just 6 goals on 66 shots in his past 2 outings, both road victories, and he also made a brief relief appearance Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Wild, stopping all 6 shots he faced.

Stars vs. Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Panthers 2

Moneyline

The STARS (-110) are worth a look as they look to bounce back from Friday’s high-scoring loss.

In this battle of backup goaltenders, backing Dallas with DeSmith is a good idea. He hasn’t been nearly as giving as Knight for Florida.

Both of these teams were pretty good playing on no rest last season, with Florida going 6-1-1 with a plus-9 goal differential, and Dallas was 6-3-2 with a plus-9 goal differential.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Stars +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return if you would like some insurance on the team considered the ‘away’ team in Saturday’s rematch. That’s way too expensive, even if you were to fold this into a multi-leg or cross-sport parlay.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-120) was a terrible play on Friday, but we’ll go with it again Saturday.

The Under is still 5-2-2 in the past 9 games for Dallas. In addition, the Under went 6-2 in 8 games for Florida when playing on no rest last season.

With all of the travel and the quick turnaround, these teams should be a little sluggish after the offensive show Friday.
