Mike Tomlin on Week 7 first-half: ‘We can’t settle for field goals’

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a solid first-half performance, but struggled on several drives to score points. Tomlin touched on the issues.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trailing the New York Jets 15-13 as the first-half of Week 7’s Sunday Night Football contest comes to an end.  There were a variety of plays to be optimistic about, however, there was some definite cause for concern as well.

Russell Wilson has had a solid first-half performance, throwing for 145 yards and one passing touchdown to WR George Pickens on Pittsburgh’s last drive of the half.  However, his accuracy leaves much to be desired—completing only 8 out of 17 passes.  Mike Tomlin was interviewed heading into half-time, and touched on some of the quarterback’s biggest plays, the offense’s inability to get first downs, and the overreliance on scoring points through Chris Boswell.

Tomlin stated to sideline reporter Melissa Stark that “We’re settling for fieldgoals and they’re scoring touchdowns.”

Can the Pittsburgh offense find its groove in the second-half under Russell Wilson?  Justin Fields eagerly watches from the sidelines in hopes of getting his chance to play in Week 7.
