The Duke Blue Devils are a virtual lock for the college football postseason with five wins in their first six games, but as of Week 8, CBS Sports doesn’t think Duke would need to wait very long for a bowl assignment.
The site’s projections have the Blue Devils facing off against the Miami-Ohio RedHawks in the Boca Raton Bowl on December 18th.
The game, which takes place at Florida Atlantic University’s stadium, takes place less than three weeks after the end of the regular season.
The RedHawks, last year’s Mid-American Conference champions after upsetting Toledo in the championship game, have lost four of their first six games of the season. However, three of those losses came against Northwestern, Cincinnati, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, so a torrid closing stretch to reach six wins isn’t out of the question.
The Miami Hurricanes, still undefeated despite double-digit deficits against Virginia Tech and California, remain in line for the automatic bye as conference champions. The Clemson Tigers, as the 10th seed, are the only other ACC program in the 12-team field.
