The New York Giants still remain all alone in last place in the NFC East with a 2-3 record after their upset win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday but they are in the thick of the race with 12 weeks remaining.
The NFC East is tightening up with the Washington Commanders, who finished last in 2023, sitting atop the division with a surprising 4-1 record.
The Dallas Cowboys are next at 3-2 after their last-minute win over the Steelers on the road Sunday night.
The Philadelphia Eagles remain in third place at 2-2. They were on a bye this past week.
The Giants are 0-2 in the division after close losses to Washington and Dallas but some feel that an improved and healthy Giant squad could compete this year and possibly make a run for the playoffs if things break right for them.
Head coach Brian Daboll was asked on Monday if he mentioned something along those lines to the team. He wasn’t taking the bait.
“Our focus is on what we need to do each week,” he said. “So, put everything you got into it, which our coaches, our players have done each week, and we’ll have a big challenge ahead of us this week.”
Both Giants’ wins this season have come on the road and their 21-18 loss to Washington down in the Nation’s capital was a very winnable game.
Daboll was asked if the team was developing a road warrior mentality this season.
“I think it’s just playing well. Making plays when they come our way,” he said. “So, it was about as hostile an environment as you can be in. What I’m proud of is not to have false starts and pre-snap penalties offensively. We worked hard at that throughout the week. Our focus has been high. It’s been high every week. Don’t always get the results you want. But, playing well is the most important thing.”
The trip to Seattle was the only game they will play in the Pacific time zone this season. They will play 11 of their final 12 regular season games in the Eastern time zone, the only exception being their trip to Dallas on Thanksgiving Day.
