Panthers reportedly signing familiar face to practice squad

According to multiple reports, the Panthers are re-signing OLB Marquis Haynes Sr. to their practice squad.

Maybe some familiarity will eventually breed some contests off the edge for the Carolina Panthers.

According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, the team is signing outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. to their practice squad. The 30-year-old defender has spent each of his six NFL seasons with the Panthers.

Haynes Sr. was selected by Carolina in the fourth round of the 2018 draft. The University of Mississippi product, who would go on to appear in 71 games for the organization, has since amassed 99 combined tackles (18 for a loss), 14.0 sacks, six passes defensed, a forced fumble and four fumble recoveries—one of which ended in a 44-yard touchdown return.

The Panthers showed some interest in a return for Haynes Sr. this past summer, when they brought him in for a workout alongside a handful of other veteran pass rushers.

Shortly after, Haynes Sr. signed with the Arizona Cardinals—who’d then release him just three days later.
