Michigan State basketball is heading to where it all began for head coach Tom Izzo in a few weeks. And he’s excited about it.
Izzo was in Chicago on Thursday for the annual Big Ten Media Days event, and he was asked about the Spartans’ upcoming exhibition game at Northern Michigan next Sunday. He played for Northern Michigan — which is a Division II program — and is from Michigan’s upper peninsula, so this game has added value to him.

Michigan State’s exhibition opener against Northern Michigan will occur on October 13. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m. ET and the viewing options have not been announced at this time.
Michigan State basketball will officially tip off the season on November 4 against Monmouth.
