Texas falls to No. 2 in AP Top 25 behind No. 1 Alabama

After two weeks at No. 1, the Texas Longhorns dropped to No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll behind new No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide.

It seems Texas just can’t be No. 1 in both polls so far this season. After the Texas Longhorns were crowned the No. 1 team in the nation in the US LBM Coaches Poll, finally passing Georgia, the Horns fell in the AP Top 25 to No. 2.

The Longhorns had held the top spot in AP for two straight weeks. But following its electrifying victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, the Alabama Crimson Tide were boosted to No. 1 by the writers.

Alabama received 40 of 63 first-place votes and jumped three teams to take over No. 1 from Texas. The Longhorns got 19 first-place votes, way down from last week’s 44.

Ohio State remained No. 3 with four first-place votes. The Tennessee Volunteers, which had a bye week, moved up to No. 4. Georgia fell to No. 5.

Oregon, Penn State, Miami, Missouri and Michigan rounded out the top 10.

Texas will have a week off before facing Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl for Red River.
