Nebraska falls out of the Top 25 but the Big Ten is well represented in polls

The Big Ten is well represented in both the US LBM Coaches Polls and the AP Poll ahead of week five.

Following their 31-24 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini at Memorial Stadium in week four, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are no longer ranked in the Associated Press’s Top 25 rankings or the US LBM Coaches Poll

That being said, despite the Husker’s departure from the rankings, the Big Ten is well-represented in the polls heading into the final weekend of September.

Ohio State leads all Big Ten programs, ranked No. 3 in both polls. The Buckeyes received five first-place votes in the AP Poll and two first-place votes in the Coaches Poll.

Oregon (No. 8 / No. 7) and Penn State (No. 9 / No. 8) are also ranked in the top 10. Michigan saw a big jump this week, up to No. 12 in both polls after their 27-24 win over USC, which fell to No. 13 and No. 16, respectively.

Lastly, Illinois, fresh off their win over the Huskers, moved up to No. 19 in the AP Poll, a five-spot jump, while entering the Coaches Poll for the first time this season at No. 21.

When it comes to programs potentially knocking on the door of the rankings, Indiana, led by first-year head coach Curt Cignetti, is the second team out in both polls, receiving 63 points in the AP Poll and 67 points in the Coaches Poll. Nebraska and Iowa both received votes in the AP Poll, while Washington and Rutgers joined the Huskers and Hawkeyes in receiving votes in the Coaches Poll.
