The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-1, 1-1 ACC) travel to meet the Louisville Cardinals (2-0, 0-0) Saturday at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Georgia Tech vs. Louisville odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Yellow Jackets suffered their first loss of the season, 31-28, in a road trip to Syracuse Sept. 7 in their 2nd conference game. Georgia Tech rebounded with a 59-7 win over VMI as a 44-point favorite as the Over (53) cashed for the 1st time in 4 tries. The Under is 3-0 in 3 games against FBS opponents, including 2-0 in 2 off-campus games.

The Cardinals have pierced the top-25 rankings with a pair of layup wins over FCS Austin Peay and Jacksonville State. Louisville had a bye last weekend. It has outscored the opposition 111-14 in 2 games, while the Over has cashed in each outing.

Louisville is No. 20 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports

Georgia Tech at Louisville picks and predictions

Prediction

Louisville 34, Georgia Tech 27

Moneyline

Louisville (-400) will set you back 4 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward on a standalone bet. Over the long term, betting such large favorites is not a recommended wagering strategy.

Including the Cardinals in a multi-leg parlay isn’t a good idea, either, as they’ll suck all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS.

Against the spread

Back GEORGIA TECH +10.5 (-115), as this is an awful lot of points for a conference battle.

Yes, Louisville -10.5 (-105) has been impressive to date, but who has it really played? An FCS team and a Sun Belt team is not exactly a murderers’ row of foes. Georgia Tech is battle tested, having gone overseas for the upset win of Florida State, while going to Syracuse for an early conference test, albeit a narrow loss.

The Yellow Jackets might not win here, but they’ll put up a very good fight, and they should keep it within a single score.

Over/Under

OVER 57.5 (-115) is a strong play. In previous years, Georgia Tech ran the triple-option, and if it were to fall behind as an underdog, it would have difficulty getting back in the game due to a lack of passing. That’s no longer a problem, as the Paul Johnson era is in the rear-view mirror, and the Jackets are in the 21st century. Georgia Tech has a dual threat under center in QB Haynes King, capable of slinging it.

Louisville has cashed the Over in each of its 2 games, racking up 111 points in the 2 wins, but it has come against underwhelming opponents. The concern here is how the Cardinals respond against an actual Power 4 defense. We should still get a game into the 60s, though.
