The Lions rallied late and found the end zone in overtime for a 26-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses as the team blew a 17-3 lead before winning in overtime.
Overall, it was an up and down day for the Lions. But one Lion was steady throughout and helped the Lions build that 17-3 lead in the third quarter and, for a while, seemed like the only positive as the game wore on. Our Player of the Game for Week 1 goes to wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Williams caught five passes for a career-high 121 yards and a 52-yard touchdown on a deep bomb from quarterback Jared Goff. Williams accounted for more than half of Goff’s passing yards — no other receiver had more than 50 yards. The Lions needed another receiver to step up as their star Amon-Ra St. Brown went for just 13 yards on three catches. Without Williams, Detroit may not win this game.
Injuries had kept Williams from reaching his potential early on in his career. This looks like it could be the year things finally come together for Williams. If so, Detroit’s offense is only going to be more exciting to watch.
