Quinn Ewers may have found his new favorite red zone target

While they have been able to spread the ball around, one player who has stood out is Matthew Golden

Through two games the Texas Longhorns offense has been one of the best in college football. They have already scored 83 points and shown no signs of slowing down. While they have been able to spread the ball around, one player who has stood out is Matthew Golden.

After starting his career at the University of Houston, Golden entered the transfer portal and found his way to Austin in the spring. The Texas native was expected to boost the offense, and so far, he has not disappointed.

In his first eight quarters with the Longhorns, Golden has hauled in nine receptions for 91 receiving yards. He is averaging 10.1 yards a catch, the third most on the team, and is becoming a popular target for Quinn Ewers in the red zone.

Entering Week 3, Golden leads the Longhorns with three receiving touchdowns. He is the only wideout with more than one and already seems to be a perfect fit for Longhorn’s offense. Last season, he added six touchdowns to his resume,  a number he is on pace to match before the end of September.

As the season continues, Golden will be a player to keep an eye on. He flashed his potential against Colorado State and made an impact against a ranked team in Michigan on Saturday. For the Longhorns to build on their success, they will need Golden to continue his recent play and find ways to score.
