While he didn’t become famous because of the school he went to, an already famous and highly decorated Olympian chose the University of Michigan all the same.
Michael Phelps is the GOAT in men’s swimming and he ended up attending college in Ann Arbor after he had already reached his famed status. Certainly, he garnered an affinity for all things maize and blue during his time at U-M, and has attended multiple Michigan games the past few years — including the 2022 Penn State game and the College Football Playoff later that year.
And now he’s coming back to be the celebrity guest picker on College GameDay.
ESPN announced on Thursday that Phelps will be the special guest making picks of all the big games on Saturday, as he returns to Ann Arbor for the huge game.

Phelps isn’t the only luminary expected on campus on Saturday. New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter is set to be an honorary captain for the game (he’s attended multiple Michigan games for the past 10 years) while movie star and noted Texas fan Matthew McConaughey is also expected to be in attendance.
