Where Michigan football ranks in Week 2 US LBM Coaches Poll

Not surprising. #GoBlue

Opening weekend of college football has come and gone and Michigan football did what it was supposed to do, even if it wasn’t in impressive fashion.

The Wolverines took out Fresno State, 30-10, but the offense sputtered en route to the win, taking all of four quarters to pull away from the Bulldogs. Fans weren’t impressed, and the media was somewhat even-keeled, but what about the coaches across college football?

As a result of the win, Michigan dropped from No. 8 to No. 9. Its next opponent, Texas, remains at No. 3. The Wolverines still have to face No. 2 Ohio State at the end of the regular season and a rising No. 14 USC in just three weeks and No. 25 Washington in Week 6.

Even if the offense wasn’t particularly impressive, the Michigan defense was, holding Fresno State to its lowest output since 2019. Even the scored touchdown came late in the game, though the game was still somewhat in question at the time. The Wolverines responded on the ensuing drive to push the score to 23-10 before Fresno State marched down the field (aided by Michigan penalties) culminating in a Will Johnson pick-six.
