Former USC Trojan wide receiver Deontay Burnett was cut by the Dallas Cowboys after the end of the preseason schedule. Cowboys Wire has more on this story, as Burnett searches for an NFL home.
Burnett played this past season with Arlington Renegades in the UFL. Burnett’s final USC season saw him become Sam Darnold’s primary target; he ended that season with 56 catches for 1,114 yards and nine touchdowns before entering the NFL draft.
Burnett, a Southern California native raised in Compton, attended USC before going undrafted in 2018. He has spent time with the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles during his NFL career. He has totaled 15 receptions for 210 yards in eight games of action.
After his stint with the Eagles ended in 2020, Burnett found a home with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL in 2023 before landing with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL in 2024. This past spring season, Burnett had 33 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns for the Renegades.
