Giants place Dyontae Johnson on IR, sign Curtis Bolton

The New York Giants placed inside linebacker Dyontae Johnson (ankle) on IR with a designation to return and signed linebacker Curtis Bolton.

On Wednesday, the New York Giants placed backup inside linebacker Dyontae Johnson on injured reserve (IR) with a designation to return.

Johnson suffered an ankle sprain in the Giants’ preseason opener against the Detroit Lions and since he was on the 53-man roster as of 4:00 p.m. EDT Tuesday afternoon, will be eligible to return when ready.

In a corresponding roster move, the Giants also signed linebacker Curtis Bolton.

For Bolton, the Giants will be his eighth stop in his short NFL career, which began as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oklahoma with Green Bay in 2019.

The 28-year-old Bolton has appeared in 28 NFL games — 23 for Las Vegas and five for Detroit. He was mainly been used on special teams.

In 28 career games, Bolton has recorded 16 tackles (11 solo), and returned one punt for 17 yards.
