NFL players vote Bills’ Josh Allen as league’s ‘most overrated’ QB

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen might be able to walk on water in western New York but he might have a problem with that elsewhere according to recent study.

ESPN recently surveyed over 100 anonymous NFL players and they were asked to respond to a series of questions. Among those was who is the most overrated quarterback in the league.

Allen earned that honor, receiving 11 total votes. The Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa tied for second with 10.

In addition to his overrated title, Allen also finished outside of the ranking of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. He finished behind the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow (51 votes), Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson (124)… and no in surprise, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. Allen had 39 votes.

Along with his overrated sentiment, Allen earned a spot as the NFL’s best trash-talking quarterback as well. The 28-year-old will likely use such a survey of players around the league to motivate him even more heading into the 2024 season.

The ESPN breakdown on Allen’s selection as the NFL’s most overrated quarterback can be found below:

The three top vote-getters in this category have made five Pro Bowls, one Super Bowl and two conference championship games.

That means a successful QB can also be considered overrated.

When voting for Allen, one NFC West player said: “Too many turnovers.”

Since the start of the 2008 season, Allen’s 102 turnovers lead the NFL. The Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff is second with 96, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield is third with 91, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Allen has made two Pro Bowls and helped guide the Bills to five postseason bids, including an AFC Championship Game, in his six years.
