Longhorns forward nets Texas’ first weekly SEC honor

The Richardson, Texas native was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the first player in program history to earn the honor

On Monday, forward Trinity Byars made history for Longhorns women’s soccer. The Richardson, Texas native was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the first player in program history to earn the honor. In two matches last week, Byars showed why she is an exceptional talent.

This is also the first Texas Longhorns athlete to receive an SEC award.

Byars returned to her hometown on Thursday and was a human highlight against SMU scoring a career-high four goals. The Longhorns senior also added nine points to her resume and became the fifth student-athlete in program history to score four goals in a game. Lexi Missimo was the last player to accomplish the feat.

As Byars terrorized the Mustangs’ defense, she also made history. Due to her four-goal outing, Byars became the first player in program history to score 50 or more goals during their career in Austin. She also became the NCAA’s active leader in career goals with 52. During her time in Texas, Byars has become arguably one of the best players to wear a Longhorns jersey.

With the Longhorns’ season far from over, Byars could have plenty of milestones on the horizon. In four games this season, she already has 13 points and is showing no signs of slowing down. For Texas, that is a welcome sign, as her play is critical to their success.

During the 2023 campaign, she set a career-high in goals with 18 and is already on pace to pass that mark less than a month into the season.
