Pitsburgh Steelers release former Georgia running back

The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut a former Georgia football running back ahead of the roster deadline

The Pittsburgh Steelers released former Georgia Bulldogs running back Daijun Edwards. Edwards went undrafted in the 2024 NFL draft after a four-season college career with the Georgia Bulldogs. Edwards totaled over 2,000 rushing yards and scored 24 touchdowns during his time at Georgia.

Edwards had bright moments with Steelers, but it was not enough for him to make the 53-man roster. Edwards recorded seven carries for 37 yards and one touchdown this preseason.

Now, Edwards looks to sign with another team or hope to land a practice squad deal. Edwards has a shifty running style and is a solid pass catcher. He does not have the biggest frame and is not the fastest running back, but he was quite productive at the college level. He will likely get another look from an NFL team.

The 2024 NFL roster deadline is Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. ET. NFL teams must trim their squads to 53 players in what is always a difficult day for many pros across the league.
